Youth homelessness represents an enduring challenge for communities across the globe. Recent national initiatives attempt to shift policy and practice towards homelessness prevention and away from shelter-based responses. Promising evidence supports universal prevention (e.g., tenant rights, inclusive housing), selective prevention and indicated prevention. Research shows how to integrate prevention approaches into existing homeless services and transformations must balance prevention initiatives with simultaneous efforts to scale up permanent and stable housing to remediate repeat homelessness. The present study leverages computer simulation to explore shifts toward prevention from a feedback perspective. Based on the best available national data, models track the flow of insecurely housed and homeless youth, assuming constrained capacity of homeless assistance. Being homeless, no matter how long it lasts, is a life-altering traumatic event that creates major stress in any person’s life, regardless of age.
So many students are denied opportunities because their schools and communities are underfunded and under-resourced, no matter where we live or what we believe, we all want our children to succeed. We’re coming together so that all students, of every race and every place have the funding they need to learn without limits and unlock their dreams. When educators come together with families and communities, we can advocate for how funding is spent, and we can push for more funding for our students, by ensuring their success which starts and ends with the resources and opportunities we give them.
Everyone has the right to choose what to read and in celebrating that right, you can help bring new perspectives and more understanding, empathy, and joy to readers in your community especially children and youth. Giving kids a choice in what they read, what you can do to support and protect their right to choose books from all viewpoints, and how you can help them access relatable, enjoyable reading materials. When students are given choice in what they read, as well as support and time to read, they thrive. Students need time to read every day in order to progress as readers. Giving students the time to read something that they choose and at their own pace not only gets kids excited about reading, it also helps them build confidence in their reading abilities and encourages them to read more.
